The God Argument
It's always surprising to me to find that so many people out there seem to have slept through science class in school, or fail to think before making arguments, but they exist nonetheless. In the ongoing "discussion" (it's mostly one-sided unfortunately) about the existence of a supreme being (God for short), I came across and mind-bendingly stupid rant by Yomin Postelnik on the failure of logic in atheism. What this article mainly is is a strange assortment of incorrect arguments for the existence of God. And while I wouldnt make hay over most of these commentaries, this one was so bad it deserves note.
If any of you reading this feel that some of his arguments (the anthropic principle for example) have merit, then my work in educating you all on fallacies needs to continue. But I will not take credit for the destruction of his points...instead I will plead that each one of you read this wonderful counter to the article, Martin Wagner's systemic dismantling of common creationist claims. Its a great read and his derision exists due to his shared incredulity (with me) on how so many simple scientific points get missed in our study in school. Well worth the read!
Oh, and one of my own points...nothing in evolution EVER claims "randomness". When you see anyone make the statement "there is no way we could have evolved by random chance." (for example), remember that no one claims any part of our evolution is random. There are numerous laws that guide species development and so randomness never enters the equation!
